The abbey of St. Maria de Olearia was built with three different chapels one above the other dedicated to Holy Mary and Saint Nicholas, painted with fresco since X century. Founded as a hermitage between the 973 e il 987 A.D. by the hermit Pietro with his nephew Giovanni, in the medieval age became a Benedictine monastery. The name “de Olearia” is derived from the olives trees that surrounded the monastery.
